The world is a wonderland of white this morning. Heavy snowfall creates a white blanket over everything in its path. While beautiful to gaze at; it’s not so lovely to be out in and managing the winter roads. I am glad for my cozy home and the ability to stay home today- a refuge from the storm.
No matter what our station in life or where we live or how much money we have, there are storms in life. It is easy to look at others and think that they have it much better because they have more money, more friends, a better job,…etc. But each of us has challenges living in this sinful world. No one is immune.
On days when we feel overwhelmed by the world or troubled by some life issues, God offers us comfort. In the words of Nahum: (1:7 NIV) “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”
It’s interesting that this verse is in the middle of a number of verses where God’s wrath against Nineveh is proclaimed. But that’s the way God is. We can be in the middle of incredible storms and difficulties; yet He is there as our refuge.
I survive on the fact knowing that God cares for me because I trust in Him. I don’t know what I would do in times of trouble without that knowledge.
This verse from Nahum is a good one to commit to memory. May you draw comfort from our loving God who knows you inside and out and who only wants what is best for you.
