Doing the Impossible
Some days are great but others are just upside down. All it takes is one phone call or one incident and life is changed. We can pursue life in one direction and wham – the brakes are applied and we must change our path. At times, moving forward can seem impossible.
I highly doubt that anyone can say life is easy. No matter what our station in life, there are challenges. There is no straight path through life. Some parts of our journey are on the mountain tops with glorious experiences and relationships, and others are in the valleys where turmoil reigns. At times, the road turns and we face a marvelous vista with loads of opportunities. Other times, we turn a corner and we are faced with choices we never thought we would have to make.
Wealth or poverty make no difference. The devil roars around trying to upset life, no matter what our financial circumstances, job prospects, or family situation. He is out to cause upset and havoc and has great success at it if we let him interfere in our lives. His meddlesome ways can interfere with our best thought out plans at times as he is out to destroy us.
Nowhere in Scripture are we promised an easy, perfect life on this side of heaven. In fact, the Bible often says the opposite. The Apostle Paul speaks frequently of the trials of this life and how we should face them.
In my earlier years, I used to think that if I just did things a certain way and had certain attitudes, that I would have a good life. If I work hard I would have the job I want and need and build a life. If I do things a certain way I would have a wonderful family with everything going right…and so on.
Naive I was, that’s for sure. It’s not about what I do that makes the difference but what God does.
In my life’s journey I have learned a great deal – because of the challenges. I know now that God is faithful and I can lean on Him no matter what. He is responsible for the blessings in my life – that I am nurtured and cared for and that I have meaning, purpose, and hope.
There are many times in life when things seem impossible in my own way of thinking. In my human eyes, the path ahead is murky. I really don’t see how I will get through the mire of my circumstances.
Yet, as a good friend reminded me this week, God is all about the impossible. She shared this quote from Corrie ten Boom:
“The wonderful thing about praying is that you leave a world of not being able to do something,
and enter God’s realm where everything is possible.
Nothing is too great for His almighty power.
Nothing is too small for his love.”
Life might look impossible today. Maybe funds are tight or you have a fender bender. Perhaps a health condition changes your quality of life. Maybe a loved one is hurting or is causing you pain. The list of impossible can seem very lengthy.
No matter what is on that list, think about Corrie’s words. Prayer does make a difference. NOTHING is outside of God. He is interested in our every concern and our every joy. He is there to listen and guide no matter what happens.
I can attest to the fact that God makes what seems to me to be impossible actually possible. Our loving Heavenly Father is faithful and I have seen Him working in my life in incredible ways in many seasons of my life.
Trust God with your impossibles. He will provide what you need, when you need it.
