Reading the Reviews
When I have larger purchase to make, I like to investigate which is the best rated item. I search the internet to find the reviews of others to learn the pros and cons of particular products to make a wise choice. I can spend considerable time researching different sources to gain a better understanding of the item in which I am interested. There are so many products on the market these days and it would be hard to narrow down my choices if I did not have some additional information on which to base my purchase.
I want products that have a good track record. I am reluctant to invest my limited funds on something that others find a problem. Also, I don’t want to spend a bunch of time shopping around in stores. I want to know what I works best first.
My faith life is similar. I want to put my trust in a place of surety. My belief system needs to be on solid ground. I do not want to feel set adrift in this life. I want to take the best path possible through my life’s journey and not get mired in unhealthy and unhelpful distractions.
This world is full of broken promises from every area of life. Why should I put my faith in things of this world that have no substance and longevity?
God is not like that. He keeps His promises. His track record proves his trustworthiness.
How do I know that? Scripture has numerous examples of God’s faithfulness. Here are a few:
“O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.” (Isaiah 25:1 NIV)
“Know therefore that the Lord your God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.” (Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV)
“But the Lord is faithful, and He will establish you and guard you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV)
These verses embrace us with the hope they bring to our tired and wounded spirits. Our Almighty God has done great and marvelous things throughout human history and beyond and is still at work in our lives today. It’s not indeterminate. God plans what is best for us and sticks to His plan.
The Bible is full of God’s promises of hope and joy. He wants us to lead vibrant lives. He promises to be with us through anything – and He is. Does that mean He takes away every trying item in our lives? No. It doesn’t matter what this world tries to do to us, God will not let us go. He will guard and protect us from Satan’s attacks.
In the last verse I listed, in Thessalonians, the promise is that God WILL establish us. We are not left to waffle in the wind. God will establish us with a firm foundation on the rock of Christ Jesus. He sets our feet on the needed path if we are willing to follow His guidance.
We do not face the battles of the world alone. We have a loving God who gives us the strength we need to soldier on. He has done it in the past. We can view His trustworthy behaviours throughout the pages of Scripture.
Read the reviews. God does what He says – EVERY time.
